- Music: Tinted Windows - Can't Get a Read on You
James Iha, Bun E. Carlos, Adam Schlesinger, AND Taylor Hanson. In a band. Together.

I can’t believe I totally missed this!
I thought the idea of Smashing Pumpkins collaborating with Hanson seemed surreal. Then they add Cheap Trick and Fountains of Wayne to the mixture and leave me thinking, “what the hell.” But it actually does sound pretty good. Catchy and kickass at the same time. With Iha and Carlos in there, I was expecting the music to be a tad heavier, but anyways, it’s still cool.
90’s music back? Let’s hope so.

- Music: Nine Inch Nails - Hurt

Nine Inch Nails was fantastic last night. Now had I known that cameras would be allowed, I would have brought a decent camera. I did not want to go through the trouble of having my camera confiscated, but I had no idea that security wouldn’t frigging mind. So because I don’t have pictures of my first and last NIN concert, I had to yoink this one and improvise. Not quite the same (Trent Reznor is so much more awesome up close, trust me), but you get the picture.
Most of the songs they played were new stuff (that I’ve heard but didn’t pay much attention to), but they did play some songs from The Downward Spiral, so that was layers and layers of awesome. They also played I’m Afraid of Americans and Dead Souls, which were already more than enough to make me happy. And all this I experienced from a really, really good seat. There were some morons who seemed to be in the wrong concert (you don’t bellydance and undulate your arms in a NIN concert. You fucking bang your head), but last night’s show was still plenty awesome. Like, awesome awesome awesome awesome awesome.
Still not over it. Squeeeee! Awesome.

- Music: Vienna Teng - Antebellum

I am extremely late, but I’ve finally listened to Vienna Teng’s new album Inland Territory.

Good Lord, this woman has gems for songs. The musical arrangements have been made even richer, her vocals are as enchanting as ever, and her lyrics, perhaps even more than it did before, stir the soul. I’m actually still in *gasp* mode, so I am in absolutely no condition to critique and give a proper review without squealing like a rabid schoolgirl.
Vienna Teng, being the genius of analogies that she is, managed to make the lyrics of all the songs in this album appear somewhat war-themed but actually describe various battles of the heart. The songs depict the challenges of living life to the fullest, dealing with a broken family, finding your soulmate, and all sorts of battles that are not unheard of but not really pondered upon much by most. And they are all performed beautifully. Even if you don’t get the tasty little metaphors sandwiched between each verse, you’ll still enjoy the layers and layers of lush, indulgent sound. Tracks I recommend are The Last Snowfall, Antebellum, Kansas, Stray Italian Greyhound, No Gringo, and St. Stephen’s Cross. Playing Vienna Teng songs loudly is recommended.
I’m gonna enjoy this some more. With tea. Mmm.

The tickets have been bought. I’m gonna see Nine Inch Nails this August! Wooooooot! I’m definitely gonna be making Nine Inch Nails shirts. Any ideas for a shirt caption for me? My sister has dibs on “Do Me Trent.”
Anyway, I’ve got crocheted mango tart.
