I Survived 2009

2009 did horrible shit to a lot of people. But I made it in one piece, and most of my loved ones did as well. Whether you call it God’s Grace or an insane amount of luck, my loved ones and I had it. I have more than enough reason to be thankful. I can carry on with my plans for my wedding, my business, and other shit I intend to accomplish within this lifetime. I just have to stay alive this year and the year after this one.

Plus I’ve got these kids. How can I possibly not want to live longer?

I’m the Fly in Your Soup

A lot of good things have happened. The good things definitely outnumbered the bad. Pretty Oddity, originally a little sideline I did for fun, now has a physical location in a well-populated area and a fairly decent customer base. We still attend conventions and bazaars every once in a while. There would be the occasional customers from hell. Customers who treat you like crap while they’re buying, and customers who treat you like crap because they can’t afford your stuff. I’ve forgotten about a lot of them. But this lot is by far the worst of them all.

I know I haven’t updated in a while, and I probably should write a happy entry. But whatever, I’m currently in no mood to please anyone.

A few days ago in one particular convention, three girls flock to Pretty Oddity’s table right when we’re about to pack up. They try on our stuff, and stay there for about half an hour or so, without taking off our merchandise. Then they come across our chokers and ask how much they are. We tell them the price. As with any customer who can’t afford it, they would gasp and complain how expensive it is. And one girl says, “oh I know, how about we make these” and she smirks at me. Like she’s challenging me. Spiting me.

I stare at her. She never looks at me again. The girls finally make up their minds, pay for some of the stuff they were wearing, took off the ones they couldn’t afford, and left.

I’m not mad at her anymore, because like most pitiful customers who brat out because they can’t afford your stuff, she really isn’t worth the aggravation. But I still would like to dropkick her in the face because it’s fun.

Cosplay Mania ‘09

I attended my first cosplay convention as an exhibitor last Sunday. Because I was too busy helping prepare our merchandise, and I’m cheap, I went as a punk lolita. Not that anyone noticed, because I manned our booth the entire time. But anyways, it was still fun. The customers were cool (most of them, anyway), and damn, business was really good.

Shameless Plug

First off, although I didn’t advertise it here, I’d like to thank everyone who visited us last week at the Only You Bazaar. There weren’t a lot of people who came, so we really appreciate the few folks who did drop by and bought from us. We did a lot better than expected thanks to you guys.

We’ve re-opened Pretty Oddity’s Multiply site for Philippine-based customers (who seem to prefer to make online purchases there). And we’re really excited to finally, FINALLY get an Etsy Shop. Still in the process of listing items, but we’re working on it. Keep checking back!

Busy Prettifying

It’s what it looks like. I’m designing sites again. Not Multiply, though. I’m currently working on my sister’s blog and a proper online shop for Pretty Oddity. I’m also updating and constructing my portfolio, which will tentatively be called, surprise, surprise, Project Prettify. The folks who know about the blip I made at Multiply would know about Project Prettify and the ginormous impression it left. It’s a lucky name, and I’m not letting it go just yet.

Speaking of portfolios, I’m rather liking dA’s new Portfolio Feature. It’s a lot like Carbonmade, only better. They’re doing a lot of great things for their users, so I think they deserve a lot of thanks. And cake. Nine of them.

Wishing dA a wonderful 9th birthday. Back to work with me.

Feeling Lightheaded

After two years of doing absolutely nothing for the mop I have for hair, I finally got a haircut. Mom ordered me to get one, so it’s not like I could do anything about it, but I’m happy.

Anyways, it’s definitely better than the dead muppet I was sporting until yesterday. And the fiancé likes it. And to show that he wasn’t BSing, he FINALLY got a new webcam. I knew I missed the man, but I didn’t realize exactly how much until I saw him again. I has a big happy.

And I still craft. I revised my Japanese Christmas Cake pattern. The first one looks a bit like an attacked eyeball. This one looks a bit more convincing.
